Ngardara Company
Ngardara means sun in the local Garrwa and Yanyuwa dialect, and the Ngardara Project is an innovative community-led approach to renewable electricity for the remote Northern Territory township of Borroloola. Ngardara Cooperative is a First Nations community-controlled organisation representing the Borroloola community. Its purpose is the improvement of energy security for households and the wider community through access to lower cost, more reliable renewable energy.
Join Ngardara—a majority Indigenous-owned, community-controlled organisation based in Borroloola, NT, leading Australia’s first utility-scale solar microgrid under First Nations ownership.
- Work with a community-led team to deliver the Ngardara ‘Sun’ Project—a 2.1 MW solar PV and 6.2 MWh battery system transitioning Borroloola toward 70–80% renewable energy and saving approximately 1.2 million litres of diesel annually.
- Part-time permanent role based in Borroloola or flexible from key regional hubs, with periodic travel to remote homelands and township sites.

The Role
The SPV Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), ensuring compliance with governance, legal, regulatory, and financial obligations across all project phases.
Working closely with the Boards, senior lenders, shareholders, Accountant and Project Manager, the SPV Manager will manage Co-Secretarial functions, lead the preparation of board and committee documentation, and maintain strong reporting and stakeholder engagement processes. They will coordinate project communications, support financial administration, oversee regulatory filings, and ensure compliance with project, credit and services agreements.
The SPV Manager also plays a key role in managing the performance of subcontractors and advisers, maintaining insurance coverage, and ensuring consistent application of management policies. Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and the Northern Territory context is highly regarded.
Skills & Experience
The role will ideally suit an experienced SPV or General Manager with a strong background in governance, compliance, and project coordination. The successful candidate will be able to problem solve, have a proactive work ethic coupled with the following qualifications, experience and attributes:
- Background in law, finance, business or governance (company secretarial qualifications a plus)
- 3–5+ years’ experience in SPVs, co-operatives, or similar compliance roles
- Strong grasp of governance, legal and financial reporting requirements
- Skilled in board coordination, contract review, and stakeholder reporting
- Organised, detail-oriented, and confident using Xero or similar systems
- Culturally competent, with experience in First Nations contexts preferred
- Committed to Ngardara’s values and able to travel to remote sites as needed
You’re passionate about self-determination and knowledge sharing and understand that working in a non-profit is a fast-moving, agile environment that requires flexibility and calmness. Ideally, you have experience working in First Nations cultural contexts or at the very least, understand and appreciate cultural competency.
