What is “Certified Membership"?
A Certified Member is an Aboriginal Business Enterprise (ABE) that is 51% or more Indigenous owned and controlled business.
The ABE must demonstrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people are involved in the daily operation of the Enterprise and have effective control at least equal to the degree of ownership and is registered with a Certifying Authority.
Before you start a certified membership application you will need the following documents:
- Proof of Aboriginality for business owner/majority business owner
- Certified Company Registration
- Company Extract
- Certificate of Incorporation(if relevant)
- Business Name Registration Certificate (ASIC)
- Evidence of majority ownership
Application Process

Complete the online form and upload evidence. Ensure you have your Certificate of Aboriginality and Business information handy (e.g., status, type, location, proportion of Indigenous staff, ownership structure, evidence of trade and core activities).
2.Assessment
Ensure Authenticity
Through assessment, we confirm the authenticity of the Aboriginal Business owner. No Stat Dec’s.
We verify management and control of our Aboriginal businesses and confirm via Interviews. No turnover limit. Recognising microenterprise as authentic Aboriginal businesses.
3.Provisional Cert
Immediate Recognition
When the NTIBN membership assessment team has verified your application you will receive immediate recognition through provisional certification.
This means that there is no wait period between this step and the NTIBN Board ratification of your certification. You can immediately access member benefits during your provisional period and tender for work as a certified Aboriginal business.
4.Live Profile
Online Presence
Complete your business and owner profiles to go live on the BBD. Your online presence will demonstrate capability and prequalification identifiers for industry and procurers. Professionally market your business and make it easy for potential clients to engage you for supply of goods and services.
5.Board Ratification
Ratify Application
NTIBN Board, made up of Aboriginal Business owners, makes a final decision to either ratify, extend your provisional certification or deny your application.
6.Full Certification
Badges Supplied
Congratulations! You have now been fully ratified as an iNDiSTRY Certified business. This is recognised through provision of a member badge to use in your materials as evidence of your authenticity as a robust Aboriginal Business Enterprise.

Is 51% or more Aboriginal owned;
That is operating as a business, including companies, incorporated associations, sole traders, partnerships, trusts and social enterprises or registered charities if they are operating as a business;
Can demonstrate that Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people are involved in the daily operation of the Enterprise and have effective control at least equal to the degree of ownership; and;

A Certifying Authority is an Aboriginal Organisation which provides services to confirm the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ownership and control of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Enterprises.
NTIBN is recognised as the peak and preferred certifying authority in the NT.

- An Aboriginal person on the Board of Directors
- An Aboriginal person in a senior leadership position
- Ongoing and regular Aboriginal Cultural Safety Training in place
- A partnership with an Aboriginal business/organisation

Supply Nation Certification is recognised by governments, however, Certification through NTIBN provides for a more rigorous and local NT Certification.
NB: Supply Nation Certification is mutually recognised by NTIBN, when the Aboriginal majority owner provides an authentic Certificate of Aboriginality.

Proof of Aboriginality certified by an appropriate and recognised Aboriginal Organisation is required. Refer NTIBN’s Individual Aboriginal Identity Certification and Register process (currently under development).
